The Next Ad Legend Could Be Here in Chicago

/ Comments (0)

This recently landed in our inbox from a smart person at Taste Media Group and we couldn't have said it better. Go Chicago.

Being a veteran of the Chicago ad scene, the domination of outside ownership
shipping in talent into our market, has led to external controls that diminish
our local geniuses. Legends have had to leave Chicago to succeed. Those whom
remain are under rigid profit requirements, demand for fantastic ideas!, and smaller staffs. Tom Shortlidge, Mark Fenske and Mark Faulkner could hold their
own against any agency team in the country. One created the "Altoid" look, another the great Crate & Barrel look from a distinctive type style and another the
distinctive Chicago voiceover style for spots and videos for MTV. Chicago's
melting pot location contains any ethnic, musical and theater genius needed
in the execution of advertising here. Our most recent legend Tina Fey dominates
broadcast award shows. Wilco our musical scene. Buddy Guy our blues scene.
Tracey Letts has won more Tony's and John Logan more Oscars than out of
town souls combined. If advertising digs deep it can find the next great team
here, as each town, feeds the coastal demands, Chicago stands tall, our very own giant on the shores of the nation's most beautiful lakefront; some on bikes,
some afoot--but so many with talent.
