I recently graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with an Honors Degree in English. On top of my coursework I was the Head Writer and Managing Editor for The Black Sheep - a professional, for-profit, weekly paper that has a circulation of 12,000 on a campus of 40,000 people. Not only were my articles featured online and in print, but I built and managed a creative staff of over a dozen writers. I organized meetings, planned editions, was in constant communication with writers, and stayed up to the wee hours of the morning with corporate headquarters to make sure deadlines were met. Every week for three years I copy edited each article, first as a word document, then at least once more in the pdf pre-printed version of the paper. I also managed company’s overall and campus Twitter, Facebook, and parts of the website. Doubling as an English major and manager/journalist I wrote approximately 2,000 words a week, which has left me with an almost obsessive eye for scrupulous editing.
